adding ATOMOS AirGlu™ Technology to its flagship
camera
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Highlights:
•
Global camera brand Nikon has chosen ATOMOS’ wireless syncing technology, AirGlu™ for
its flagship mirrorless camera, Nikon Z 9
•
ATOMOS wireless syncing technology, secured via a 2019 acquisition of Timecode Systems,
allows ATOMOS partners, including Nikon, to synchronize timecodes between multiple
devices over Bluetooth (BT) or, for longer distances, via a physical module, sold for system
integration to camera manufacturers
•
ATOMOS’ patented BT-based AirGlu™ software is provided via free license to manufacturers
to expand our connected product ecosystem amongst world-leading industry players

ATOMOS Limited (‘ASX:AMS’, ‘ATOMOS’ or the ‘Company’) is pleased to announce that Nikon is the
first camera maker to implement its AirGlu™ for Bluetooth technology, the leading wireless timecode
synchronisation protocol, in its flagship mirrorless camera, the Z 9.
The patented ATOMOS AirGlu™ system, developed by Timecode Systems and acquired by Atomos in
2019, provides wireless timecode synchronisation between video and audio capture devices for film
and television productions. The ability to lock cameras and audio devices together wirelessly with a
single, accurate timestamp is important to video, film and television production personnel, as it saves
significant time and cost by reducing manual effort and errors.
All of the ATOMOS Series 2 and UltraSync products come equipped with AirGlu as well as Ninja V and
V+ (via AtomX Sync or ATOMOS Connect modules).
This world-first camera implementation of the ATOMOS AirGlu™ system is a significant milestone in
ATOMOS’ strategy to make cloud-based collaboration accessible to all its content creating customers,
expanding the range of video production devices compatible with ATOMOS’ Series 2 wireless products
and services.
ATOMOS is commercialising the AirGlu™ system in two ways. For video content creators requiring
short-range solutions, Atomos’s patented Bluetooth technology is available to integrating partners via
a free license to encourage take-up, thus expanding ATOMOS-compatible devices, a strategy
effectively executed previously by the Company with the ProRes Raw implementation. For video
content creators seeking longer-range syncing solutions, Atomos’s partners can purchase and
integrate an ATOMOS Connect module that enables this capability in their product.

About Timecode synchronisation:
Traditionally, accurate timecode synchronisation of video and audio files from multiple devices was
only possible using cables linked to each separate device, attached with professional connectors. This
process required considerable time, equipment, and know-how to set up.
The ATOMOS AirGlu™ wireless technology supersedes cables, allowing each audio and video track to
be automatically and precisely aligned in post-production, thus avoiding a lot of manual work and
possible inconsistencies.
The ATOMOS AirGlu™ system also supports sharing metadata across connected devices, further
improving the post-production process. Wireless timecode synchronisation and metadata sharing via
ATOMOS’ AirGlu™ technology means more filmmakers can access best-in-class technology, previously
only available to larger budget productions, thus expanding ATOMOS’ customer base.
Trevor Elbourne, Atomos CEO commented: “Our partnership with Nikon is evidence of our
commitment at Atomos to innovate and solve all manner of challenges faced by our customers and
demonstrates the value of our products beyond the recording and monitoring features for which they
are well known. We’re pleased to have partnered with Nikon on this important step in our cloud-based
collaboration strategy, and we are really excited to build on this as we expand the ecosystem even
further.”
